What a banner day! We packed up our stuff and headed out of Gardiner. Before leaving I needed to get the shot below. No other words needed.

This was the last time we would go through the Roosevelt Arch (the NW Entrance to Yellowstone) during this trip.

From the roadside pullout above Mammoth I took the following shot.

We stopped at Roaring Mountain for some photos. Until today all we saw was one little steam vent coming from the hillside, but today it was roaring a bit more.

In contrast to the gray of Roaring Mountain was the colors near the road. I love the colors of Yellowstone!

We made a pitstop in Norris and guess who we saw? Bruce Gourley... yes, the one and only. He was taking a group of college students on a tour of the park today. It was a pleasure meeting him (he really does exist).

We were looking for some thing or some place that we have not seen in other Y-Net posts, so we drove down Firehole Canyon Drive. Below is Firehole Falls.

Below is one of the residents of the Firehole Canyon.

Next we turned into Firehole Lake Drive where I took some hot pool and geyser shots.

Since the only animal we had seen until this time was a chipmunk, I was taking some landscape photos. Below is a glance into the Madison Valley.

We ate lunch at the Norris picnic area and then took a hike at Ice Lake. And yes, there was still ice on the lake, although not completely covered.

We did not see the Dunraven grizzly but just above Tower we found the black bear below.

At Calcite Springs there was another black bear in the shadows (sorry for the quality). He rolled over and was scrathing his belly. It was very funny.

At the Yellowstone picnic area were the bighorn sheep.

Little America was full of bison and red dogs.

We drove up to Cooke City and checked into our hotel. We turned around and headed back south into the Lamar Valley and then Little America where we would try the badger den once again. After less than an hour mama badger came back from hunting with a ground squirrel for her hungry kits.

It wasn't long before the little ones popped their heads out and played outside the den.

Mama was always close by while they were out. I took about 300 pictures of them so there will be more pictures in the months ahead.

Sharon and I were very pleased to have had this experience. We ate dinner in Silver Gate and then headed for the hotel.
