It started out chilly (37
degrees) this morning but climbed to a very warm 82 degrees in the afternoon.
We discovered something about the Tetons today -- get out and look for animals
at dawn and again at dusk. In between, you can do anything else because they
all disappear.
We got up at 5:30 AM and left
the hotel to find a moose at Gros Ventre Junction.

Our second moose was down the
road less than a mile toward Gros Ventre Campground.

Just past Kelly near the hot
springs we found seven more moose... yes, that was seven!

A trip to the Tetons is not
complete without a photograph from Mormon Row.

The bison were up early
too...

...as well as the
elk.

The reflections on Jackson Lake
early in the morning are incredible.

After lunch we walked around
Jackson and did some grocery shopping. Having food in the car is the only way
we'll eat sometimes. Below is a picture of one of the five antler arches in
Jackson Hole.

We drove up Pacific Creek Drive
three times today looking for moose and beaver, but only got some cool
landscape photos.

We fixed some sandwiches while
watching for wildlife at Oxbow Bend and saw a grizzly bear WAY off in the
distance. See the bear dot below?
We also saw beaver, muskrats,
pelicans, a bald eagle, ducks, great blue herons, a sand hill crane, osprey and
a coyote in that same general area.

As the sun was setting very
quickly, we drove back to see if the moose would reappear. Not yet... so we
drove further and found this old homestead. I'm not sure that I had ever seen
it before, nor is it on a map.

The bison were out now and
feeding. They make funny grunting noises as they eat. A couple of them were
play sparring.

As we had just about given up
on the moose, we rounded the corner and there they were. Yeah! What a great way
to end the day.

Oh yeah... Sharon saw one more
moose in the dark as we headed back to the hotel. While we saw 10 difference
moose today, it did make for an overall 17 sightings. Not bad for a day's play
in the park.
Good night everyone. 5:30 AM
will be here before I know it. |
