We left Sioux Falls just after
5 AM and headed west. First stop was the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD.
Sharon said it was a once in a lifetime thing. She was right. Much of the
artwork and decorations were made of corn.

Next, we headed to
Badlands National Park where we saw a lot of erosion, some pronghorn
antelope and prairie dogs (they were very shy).

Leaving the
Badlands, we went into the town of Wall, home of the world famous Wall Drug
Store where we ate lunch.

Then it was off to
Mount Rushmore. We took the hike through the woods for a closer look
(lots of stairs). We also saw a mountain goat here. How cool is
that?!

We headed south
for the wildlife loop in Custer State Park where we encountered bison,
more antelope, deer and a marmot.

We are now in the
Mountain Time Zone, so we had an extra hour today. Our odometer has around
1,600 new miles on it since leaving Atlanta. Tomorrow we head for the Grand
Tetons National Park. |
