Man... this was one hairy day
of driving. 13.5 hours after leaving Paducah, KY we arrived in Sioux Falls, SD.
Illinois was a breeze, but from St. Louis to Kansas City it was a 2-lane rush
hour (minus the rushing).
We then pointed the car north
and immediately began to worry as we entered the mouth of Hades. The sky went
black and green -- ominous does not begin to describe the weather conditions.
Then it hit... powerful winds, blinding rain, hail and huge lightning bolts. I
have never pulled over on an Interstate before -- today I did.
Once we could see past the hood
of the car we ventured back onto the roadway. Once we got past through the
rain, then came 400 miles of white-knuckle driving through 50-60 mph winds
beating the side of the car, accidents everywhere, bridge construction, and
water (okay, rivers) rushing across the highways. Needless to say, we are worn
out.
We plan to get up early (5 AM)
tomorrow to head to Rapid City, SD. It is a 5-hour trip across South Dakota
where we plan on going to Mount Rushmore and a few other areas. The weather is
supposed to be much nicer.
Please continue to pray for
safe travels. I'm telling you...it was the Lord that got us through this
day. |
