Yellowstone National
Park DAY 5
We left West Yellowstone
for the northern parts of the Yellowstone National Park. We went looking for
bears and did pretty good -- 14 sightings all together. Mind you, some were
seen through scopes in the VERY far distance. It was a rainy day again and COLD
- 30's and 40's. Where's the sunshine they had last week before we got here?
Below are images from the day.
Eagle perched on the
same dead limb as the the other day above the Madison River.

Elk with velvety
antlers. Near Blacktail Lakes.

Black bear near Rainy
Lake.

"Rosie" and cubs at
Calcite Springs Overlook.

It started raining real
hard so we went to Tower and then headed in the Lamar Valley where we saw this
Pronghorn antelope (and many more).

That black blob was a
bear WAY up the hill in Lamar. It takes good eyes or patient scoping to see
these critters near the forest edge so far away from the road and up the
mountain-sides.

We drove up to Cooke
City outside of the Northeast Entrance where we drove into a snow
storm.

Heading back into
Yellowstone we found the following two moose together... probably mom and
healthy young calf.

We found several Y-Net
friends in Lamar Valley and even more on "bear alley." Around Yellowstone River
bridge we saw a couple carcasses, many bighorn sheep, a couple of grizzlies,
and elk. Most were observed through a scope.
We went back for more
Rosie and cubs. They were so fun to watch. It was a shame they were so far away
from the road.

We headed back to
Gardiner where we are staying for the next three nights and saw these two deer
in the front yard of one of the local houses.

We ate dinner with Bart
and Monique and retired early to our hotel. More bears tomorrow (we hope). We
are now halfway through our trip -- still so many bears to see and so little
time.
