Yellowstone National
Parks DAY 4
Today was pretty wet
about 50% of the time. The sun shone through occasionally. The temps generally
ran about 37 degrees on average. We encountered a lot of wintery mix including
rain, snow and sleet again. The snow was still very deep crossing between
Norris and Canyon, but Hayden Valley is melting. As a result, the creeks and
meadows look like lakes. Below are some photos from today. Most were shot at
500mm from a long distance so please forgive the quality.
Bald Eagle along the
Madison River.

Elk feeding along the
Madison River.

Gibbon Falls

Raven at Gibbon
Falls

Upper Falls of the
Yellowstone River

Lower Falls of the
Yellowstone River and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. This was taken as the
rain poured down,

Coyote at Pelican Creek.
It looks like she may have an egg in her mouth.

Bison at Pelican
Creek

Frozen Yellowstone Lake
and angry clouds.

Sharon saw two bears
today. I only caught this one that was literally 1.5 to 2 miles away. We saw it
near Steamboat Point from the top of the mountain overlooking the Lake. The
bear is that black spot near the center of the photo (confirmed by
binoculars).

Great Blue Heron at
Trout Creek in Hayden Valley,

Another coyote in
Hayden.

A deer in the Canyon
area. They are not nearly as common as elk in the park.

Firehole Falls

A "red dog" or bison
calf found at Fountain Flats Drive.

A typical sight in the
lower geyser basin.

Leftovers... beside
Firehole Lake Drive.

Hot spring runoff into
Firehole River at Midway Geyser Basin.

It was so funny watching
this raven go through a garbage sack in the back of Bubba's truck, eating what
he wanted and dropping the rest on the pavement. I bet Bubba was not a happy
camper when he returned.

The day was not real
eventful. We stayed in the lower half of the park, but tomorrow we will be
traveling back to bear country in the north and staying in Gardiner for three
evenings.
Until tomorrow... Bryan
& Sharon are calling it a night.
