Head north from Madison and you'll drive along the Gibbon River pretty much along the rim of the caldera. We have seen coyotes along the road here a number of times. You will soon come to Gibbon Falls. The first year we were there a sudden snow storm came up as we approached this area from West Yellowstone. The next pullout is Artist Paintpots. You will walk through fire-damaged forests that are recovering slowly since the 1988 fire. Then you come to the hotsprings and paintpots. The boardwalk takes you up a hillside where you can overlook the area. There is a pullout but no marker for this next sight on the left before arriving at Norris. It is the Chocolate Paint Pot located on the river bank out of view from the road.
