Like Lamar Valley, this area is a haven for bison herds, grizzly bears, wolves, coyotes and other animals. However, we have not been fortunate enough to drive through at the right time because we have rarely seen any animals except a few buffalo. It is beautiful, though.

Mud Volcano

On the southern end of the valley is Mud Volcano. This area is bubbling and spewing mud in many interesting forms -- lakes more acidic than battery acid, hot springs, fumerols, and geysers. Still, bison seem to feel right at home in this toxic area.

LeHardys Rapids

Before arriving at the lake there is a pullout for LeHardys Rapids. The rapids are not nearly as interesting as their inhabitants, though. The Harlequin Ducks gather around rocks, swim under water, and almost appear to be walking on water at times. They are sea ducks and make their home in Iceland, Greenland and Russia. The water here is also teaming with trout.
