On the left as you drive from Roosevelt Junction to Calcite Springs you will pass rainy Lake. If there is water in it you will notice that even on cloudless days the water will ripple giving it the appearaance that it is raining. It will probably be dry, however, unless you visit in the Spring time. It is at Rainy Lake that we have spotted several black bears. |

There is a pull-out to the left overlooking the Yellowstone River and gorge. Black bears also frequent this area as well. The view is spectacular from the boardwalk. The first picture is to the left and the second is to the right. If you wander up the hill opposite of the parking, you may see sheep or bear. I found my son climbing on a boulder. Head toward Tower and you will come to Overhanging Cliff. Here is the view looking into the Yellowstone canyon. It is here that you will often see osprey nesting and fishing, as well as bighorn sheep traversing the canyon walls. Like the Overhanging Cliff, the opposite side of the canyon wall also has a wall of lava flow that formed columns along the top.
