2010 Nowak Vacation to
Maine, New Hampshire & Vermont

Sunday, June 6 - Vermont Bakery, Ice Cream and Bridges

It was a very rainy day. The temperatures never got out of the 50's. We needed to find some "inside" things to do today, so we headed south to Norwich, VT to the King Arthur Bakery Store. Sharon really loved this store.

We ate lunch in our car while the rain poured down, and then headed north to Waterbury, VT for Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory.

We did the tour with a crowd of people. No, not the two people above -- the tour group had just left when I snapped this photo. They leave out every 15 minutes with about 20-25 people. At the end of the tour everyone got a free sample of a new flavor that was being introduced.

The sample was not enough though. Sharon and I had to get a couple ice cream cones on the way out. She had Milk & Cookies flavor and I had Peanut Brittle. Don't judge us...you would have done the same too.

Just down the road in Stowe, VT was Emily's/Stowe Hollow/Gold Brook Covered Bridge (lots of different names over the years). It is also rumored to be haunted. We didn't see any ghosts but as you can see in the photos below we didn't get out of the car for a photo.

We have heard about Vermont cheese, syrup and chocolates so we pulled over when we had an opportunity to try some free samples (I mean, shop). We stopped at a place where Lake Champlain Chocolates, Cabot Cheese, a Camera Shop, and Kitchen Store were all located around a common parking lot. With a few days left, we just checked out our options.

It was now late afternoon and we started heading back toward Littleton. When we saw the capitol building at Montpelier I had to stop for a few photos (which also included some other interesting churches and homes).

On we drove toward the hotel, but covered bridges would stop us two more times. Below is Martin Covered Bridge located in Marshville

Next was a footbridge found in West Danville, VT.

We finally made it back to the Littleton where we ate dinner and then headed out one last time looking for moose. Well...no moose, but as the light was fading we did see a deer.

There is less chance of rain tomorrow. We're hoping for much less rain and a little sunshine. There's so much to see and so little time left.
