Amsterdam, The Netherlands

In 1996, I traveled with NCR to Amsterdam to train call center agents and intervue knowledge experts on German-made equipment. I had a little time to see the big city and a little of the countryside. The following are photos that I took with my 35mm film camera. The images were scanned in digitally so that I could share them with others.

It was a cold and cloudy September. This may be the way that it looks all September for all I know...the sun rarely peeked through. Below is what many think of first when they hear of Holland. Next is probably tulips, I suppose.

Amsterdam is a very old city. I suppose many, if not most of the buildings in town were constructed before Columbus sailed to America -- in the 1400's. That blows me away.

Canals ran between most of the main roadways.

Beside the many micro-sized cars, bicycles seemed to be the primary mode of transportation.

Mass transit (trains) and trolleys (below) also moved the crowds. Gasoline was very expensive.

Boats also took people just about anywhere they needed to go around town because of the extensive system of canals.

While I was far away, there were still reminders of "home."
